For the purpose of encouraging stable, long-term investing in the stock market and expanding the business scope of securities firms while energizing securities markets, the TWSE devised the Rules Governing Periodic Payment Plans Entrusted to Securities Firms. The rules were approved by the Financial Supervisory Commission and released to the securities firms on December 23, 2016. Starting January 16, 2017, investors may contact securities firms that administer such plans and proceed to make periodic subscriptions of stocks and ETFs.
The TWSE has been holding five information sessions across Taiwan in December 2016 and January 2017 (December 28 and 30, 2016 plus January 12, 2017 in Taipei; January 4, 2017 in Taichung; and January 6, 2017 in Kaohsiung). The TWSE has explaining the rules of periodic payment plans and computer specifications to representatives from securities firms during the sessions, which have been broadcast live on Webpro (Taipei only) for those who are unable to attend in person. The goal of this additional service is to help investors all across Taiwan better understand the practical aspects of period payment plans, enhance their financial planning in making smaller payments over the term of the contract, and reduce investment risk. Securities firms also benefit by being able to expand their product lines and services, and the overall capital market is synergized for all participants.
